My father-in-law had his (pre chip and pin) card intercepted in the post before it reached him. They racked up about £4000 in London shops before he realised anything was wrong. The bank refunded the money immediately but what annoyed him was the police attitude. ie they took no interest at all and told him he had his money back, whats the problem mate?
My father in law contacted all the shops, told them the time of the transactions and several of them had the people caught on CCTV. Guess what, despite this the police still did nothing.

Ive said this before, fraud is perceived as a faceless crime, currently running at around 1 million a day!

I bet you dont feel faceless at the minute crm!

The ways of getting your details, run from a sophisticated electronic device, to swiping your card details when your not looking to intercepting it in the post.

Your electronic details can then be emailed anywhere, and loaded on to the magnetic strip of anything ready for use.

its almost getting more of an occurance to catch someone with a hooky credit card, than a hookey tax disc!

I've been done a few times, I never use my Debit card in restaurants or over the net (use Credit cards instead) anymore, because that seems to be the place where they get copied most.

You should get your money back, I'm with Lloyds, and for my gripes with them in the past (like taking money out on the wrong days, for which they still didn't apologise) - they were excellent when it came to refunding the descrepancies. They credited the money back almost straightaway and sent us a form which we filled out, I guess its a bugger when you have to change accounts and stuff.

Likewise with Am-Ex when I got done a while back, the card never arrived and I got calls from them asking for payment, spoke to them over the phone and they sorted it out, withour any fuss. Just needed to fill out a form a few days later.

I never got any feedback as to whether they caught the gits or not - unlucky mate.

Cheers all, the bank instantly refunded the first grand which was obvoiusly fraud, only thing is it gave them more money to withdraw on the duff card so still back to 5 grand overdrawn, i should be only 2100 over (still owe a bit on the RC30)
To add insult to injury had a mail from cahoot, they sent me a new card and pin 3 weeks ago and guess what - yep shafted twice.
Cant get much worse i dont think.
On the upside am picking up the RC30 tommorow after its valves and cams check, cant wait to get back on that. Only hope it has almost a full tank of juice in it.

Just as a thought, having been told that scammers prefer to go for gold/platinum/black cards, due to higher limits available, it may be better to have an ordinary card. No snob value though.

I only have 2 cards, 1 snob card for personal use, and a bog standard plain one for business use.

The ordinary business one gets more use, and has never been scammed in 25 years of use, the snob personal card has been scammed and changed a couple of times.

The ordinary card still has a high enough limit to do some significant damage to the bank balance as well.
