European Convention on Human Rights. Article 8-the right to respect for private and family life.

It really frightens officialdom!

This argument fails in my estimation in that the intial entry of your data on the register does not contravene the Three Tests namely;

. It is prescribed by Law
. It is intended to acheive a legitimate objective and
. It is proportionate.

Further in pursuit of Section 6 of the Act, the local authority could not have acted differently ( by refusing to release your information ) due to primary legislation requring them to do so ( either the full or edited registers depending on the applicant and the intended purpose the information was to be used for ) on payment of the necessary fee.

Had you decided to remove yourself from the edited register by annoting your electoral registration form to that effect then you may have a means by which a complaint may succeed.

If however you did not so removee your details from the edited register, then the only chance of a complaint being upheld would be for you to prove that the local authority, and not a private company or individual, passed on the details held in the full register for purposes not permitted under the legislation.
