Those lovely Safety Camera vans!!!

On the way out this eve down a dual carraige was doing above the limit but not silly fast, in the outside lane and the van was on the over side of the road in a lay by for parked cars.

Question is can he get me from that far away? it was about 7:15 pm so dark then not to badly lit though.

I always usually check the website to see if they are in the area im going but didn't today

I never would of thought they do it so late in the eve to

I was sure that for it to be valid there are rules about the angle they can get you at. A car coming straight at them would require a different calculation from one targeted at a 20 degree angle away on the other side of the carriageway.

"Slippage" (where the point targeted on the vehicle moves and affects the reading) would also be more likely with a wider angle.

Perhaps one of the resident coppers on the board will come along and give us a view?

Eeeek!! it was dark though but then I thought why would they be out if they cant take pics 3 hours after it got dark they must have infrared or night cams or something. There was steady traffic so maybe I was blocked (I hope!!!)

I already have ahem 6 so as Im pretty sure I wasn't doing more than 20mph than speed limit hopefully only be another 3 points, 6 will mean ban I guess and how long would it be? would I have to take test again?

Just how I got nicked recently while out in the car, dual carriageway with wide central reservation and the van on the opposite side. Didn't think they would be nicking vehicles on my side due to the difficulty in calculating errors with the angles involved but was proved wrong. Hope it didn't get you mate but don't rely on it.

I get increasingly pi**ed off with this total preoccupation with speed enforcement. Pity there wasn't a copper about yesterday as I was driving to Northampton on the busy A43 dual carriageway. Overtook a woman in a big estate car and wondered what she was playing about at, turned out she was totally engrossed in texting and didn't even look up when I drove along right by the side of her car in my 4x4 with the horn blaring for at least 100 yards. Now her driving was dangerous without any doubt but the likelihood of getting caught is minimal as there are so few police cars out there. Watched the antics of one police car (Volvo estate) in Towcester last evening as the driver tried to park up to get into the chip shop, what a laugh, all over the footpath then up the town to turn round and back to try and park on the opposite side of the road. Ended up going to the other chip shop and making another right horlicks of trying to park.

I beleive the current law is that if you get a ban within 6 months of passing your test then you have to retake your test. My bro-in-law is in that situation, only in a car. I assume it applies to bikes too.

The story about age's wife above was that when they asked for the photos and found 2 where the crosshairs had missed and the third where they only just got the edge of the plate. It's hard enough to get a clear shot on a bike as it is, if it's the other carriageway, in traffic and at night then I'd be surprised if they managed it.

Trouble is, if you contest it on grounds of slippage etc, then you go to court. Under the totting up procedue you'd probbly just get 3 points and a fine, whereas if you go to court they have the power to fine you a lot harder and ban you anyway. You take that risk.
