| I beleive the current law is that if you get a ban within 6 months of passing your test then you have to retake your test. My bro-in-law is in that situation, only in a car. I assume it applies to bikes too.
The story about age's wife above was that when they asked for the photos and found 2 where the crosshairs had missed and the third where they only just got the edge of the plate. It's hard enough to get a clear shot on a bike as it is, if it's the other carriageway, in traffic and at night then I'd be surprised if they managed it.
Trouble is, if you contest it on grounds of slippage etc, then you go to court. Under the totting up procedue you'd probbly just get 3 points and a fine, whereas if you go to court they have the power to fine you a lot harder and ban you anyway. You take that risk.
