Well as of last weekend I have patched the hole in the alternator casing for now with some Epoxy putty which is holding up well and when the spring comes and the 998 is back out on the roads I will look at replacing the casing with the spare I got from Jim at Bike Enders and then get the original repaired.
Also looking at getting my mate Adrian to try and make me some small protective gaurds in stainless similar to what Ducati use to offer.

The chain that snapped was from DIDs Gold series Race chains, rated for Endurance on bikes over 750cc, don't think it allowed for the torque of a 996.
I have replaced it with another DID chain from their VM range (As I already had a new one on the shelf)and this one certainly has thicker side plates.

So at least the bike is back on the road complete with the asjustable offset yokes on which i'm running 4mm less offset than standard.
