We voted for the season to start the 23rd of April...

And that's my birthday, so you're advised to let me win

If the season really starts the 23rd of April, who knows what happened exactly 34 years before?

On 23 April 1972, 70,000 spectators were at the Imola circuit to witness an event that would propel Ducati into the limelight and lay the foundations for every Ducati road bike in production today.

In 1971, legendary Ducati designer Ing. Fabio Taglioni was given the task of developing a bike to win the new 200-mile race at the Autodromo Dino Ferrari, Imola. The Imola 200, as it became known, was for bikes derived directly from production machinery – and the important and prestigious event was seen as a ‘European Daytona’.
