PC Kit - Printer recommendations please !

Reliable ones one only please.

Our little all-in-one Lexmark is not a bad piece of kit BUT, if its left for more than a week or so - some of the nozzles block up and its a right royal PAIN to get it printing correctly again...

Sometimes only being cured by new cartridges - surprise, surprise!

So - is there a printer anyone can recommend that does not suffer so badly OR has a good enough internal cleaning system that its easier to overcome?

Cheers - Frank

I bought an Epson D68 for around £40 to replace the previous Epson I had. Never had issues with it either blocking up. The previous one lasted 3 years before mysteriously packing up 6 months ago. The new one prints well including A4 size colour photos.

Reviews of various ones here http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/hard4.htm

I've been using a little £38 HP deskjet at work now for a couple of years without any problems at all.
I have an Epson at home that does the same as your Lexmark if left for a while. I'll swap it for a HP as and when I get around to it.
The thing I like about the HP's is that when you change the cartridges you change the print heads to.

Cheers Neil, yep - Lexmark is the same, when the cart is changed it changes the print heads too.

Ok yes, I'm a cheapskate and refill my carts myself, however they always work fine until left - and I just know now after every holiday that the dreaded printer chore will be waiting again (NO comments about not having holidays pls ).

Neil....just seen some deserved praise for you from a customer selling an ST4s on Flebay - looks nice too - (Sigh) - Maybe one day

That ST4S is exactly as described!! A stunning example. Used but cared for like you wouldn't believe. I've looked after it since new, bar the 600 mile service.
Didn't know he was selling her. Shame, unless he's getting another one. Norman deserves a Ducati, and a Ducati deserves Norman if ya know what I mean

I know colour lasers have tumbled in price Chi but when a laser is say around the same price as a pair of FCR carbs - do you think the printer would ever win?????

Nope.

I need a printer too frank. I've been thoroughly pished off with my epson 830 - the nozzles clog up on a daily basis and a typical tank of ink uses more of it's content cleaning jets than printing.
The tanks can't be re-filled cos epson put a chip on the tank to disable it when empty so that you have to buy a new one from them.

Looking at the customer reviews on various websites, it seems I'm not the only one to love epson in the same manor!

So my next printer I think will be an HP all-in-one print/scan/copy type thing. Not sure what model yet, need more research!

Hello NBs996

I was looking at this one a while back, looks a good one, its just the money thing . . . Handy to have the scanning . .

http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/576_273139.html

either that or a lazer mono . . as I can not remember the last time I needed to print colour at home.

regards
