York Hotel - recommendation required

Hi,

Looking for a hotel for a Friday and Saturday night in York. Would like something with car parking and walking distance (10 mins) of the nightlife. About £80 per night per room.

Does anyone know of a nice hotel I can use. I know I can scan the net all night and try to find one, but, hoped that someone would have a good recommendation.

Carbon mate,

Stopped in York loads of times, always in Guest houses, most of hotels in middle are mega bucks, I know you don't want to but best to go on York tourist board site, they have lists of hotels with rooms available, York's always busy and sometimes accomodation is scarce, hope this helps.

If you're "entertaining", then how about the Royal York? Slightly over your budget but very nice and plush and with a full-monty breakfast in the morning.

I've stayed there a few times, but admittedly I wasn't paying.

It's close to the station and well within walking distance of the City.
Last time I stayed I think it was around the £120 mark - might be more at weekends though.

Jacko.

Try the following:
Dean Court - 01904 625082 - if you can get a reasonable rate (it is possible) then that would be my first choice.
Monkbar - 01904 638086 - rates should be reasonable and it's a decent business style hotel close to city centre.
Novotel - 01904 611660 - much like the Monkbar, maybe 5 walking minutes further.

Have used all of the above myself. Go for the Dean Court, though. If you get time, I'll show you a pub or two.

I know a great B&B in York that I have used several times - it's five minutes walk from the city walls. I know the area quite well as I used to go to the Uni there.

I can't remember if it has off-road parking though cos I always travelled on the train to York from here.

The place is: Friar's Rest. 01904 629823. Proprietor: Mrs Coman.

Not sure of the cost but, last time I stayed there it was a lot less than £80.

HTH.

Try the Holiday Inn website, they've a couple in York that are cheap and excellent value.
