Hi, Yes I use Motul aswell, the reason for the following having something to do with recomendations from a certain Mr. Hackett. They used to use it in all of the race bikes they prepared, (apparently even the ones that had Shell stickers on!)

Always used Motul 300v myself and change it every 1000 miles.
Motul oil comes from a different family of chemistry completley ( Ester based)and therefore starts from a whole other level to virtually everything else available.

think silkolene do an ester based oil too actually...seem to remember reading somewhere that there are only 3 (?) manufacturers of "proper" fully synthetic oil on the market...though admittedly that was with regards to cars. silkolene was one...cant remember the others but, stuff like mobil 1 although a fully synthetic is not the real McCoy....anyone still awake??? sorry...just popped into my head that little lot...

Hello

I use silkolene 15/50 and change it every 3,000 miles, only because its available. Although sometimes it comes out the same colour

Have tried 10/40, but that engine is sitting in the garage not going anywhere for now.

I understand the 15/50 to be a thicker oil which is what I need to keep them rockers happy.

regards

snap. I use the silkoline
top oil, not cheep though.
the motul is highly recommended also.
the idea with the 15/50 is it sticks up around the top end a bit better.
so there is some oil up where it matters from the off.
the thinner the oil the more chance it will all run down to the sump much quicker.

That's a 15/50 fully synth.

Done me OK for the last 52000 miles.

Probably about time you changed it I reckon...

Hi remfanuk
Amsoil is one of the others that use Ester technology and it has a massively high film strength. Hardly available in the uk though.
I think Mobil 1 is only a highly refined hydrocrack ( normal oil ) A lot of oils sold as synthetic are actually just very highly refined versions of normal oil.
