sounds like madness

mine is the 19 pin type connector, i have (for sure) the right main harness, and was missing the front part, phoned ducati ashford (not sure if they have a clue) was told there were 2 harnesses available ( i took this to mean a 22 pin type and a 19 pin type) any how i sourced a 19 pin one, whch fiited nicely!! together with my main harness, so iguess the conector size is the same.

the only other front harness i have is a 22 pin one which came off the 748r engine etc that i removed from the bike and thats way differant, with relays on it and all sorts.

how many types of front harness are there?? with 19 pins?? i guess i cant understand how if your saying the 19 pin ones with a larger connector will plug on to my main harness?!?!

so you may well be right and its the wrong one, just seems bazar that it hass all the correct block connectors, for example the starter / kill switchs are all the same so how can if i have the correct main harness(which i do =) it be wired differantly at the plug on the switch( i assume its not then0 so must be they are wired through differant pin points at the multi pin fiting??

so is it possible to just kinda pull them out and change them over, amtbe using your multi pin diagram.

i see youve listed pins as A - V but where do these locate in terms of position, are these colours what id expect to see on the main harness? or front harness?

should they be the same colours at each position on both harnesses?

hope this all makes sense?!!

The coloum on the left should be the colour code of the front harness and the coloum on the right should be the colour code of the main harness, the letters down the middle are the pin id's as embossed in the multi-plug plastic moulding.

Main differences are already high lighted

and both are 19 pin harnesses

I know of at leat 4 differnt front harness's, two with 19 pins and two with 22 pins, and they all plug up inside the headlight exactly the same.
I had to work out the differences for myself between the two 19 pin ones and hence the spread sheet

On the 916 the 12 volts is on pin U of the multi-pin, it then goes through the kill switch and onto the start button, which when pressed sticks the 12 volts onto pin S where it goes to the start solinoid

On the 998 the 12 volts comes in on pin S and when pressed goes out via pin B to the starter soinoid

If you have the wrong front harness the solinoid will be connected to the charging light which isn't exactly going to do a lot.

If all else fails send me the one you have and I'll alter it for you, I did it before to get my 998 Hybrid running while I waited for a proper 998 one to come along, took a long time, if it had been a track bike I would have stuck with the one I modified but as the 998 one is a slightly longer loom I needed the right one so I could run the headlight and have all the connectors correctly mounted in the headlight shell.
Somebody else in the same situation as you had that modified front harness off me, but I hung onto the info.
