travel Insurance - medical

Who do you use when you do run abroad on the bike. I am not interetested in all the nif naf that comes with most packages, just to ensure that the meidical cover is OK for traveling and having and disaster on a bike. A lot of policies specifically exclude traveling on bikes above 125cc.

Rgds, Rob

To start with, the old E111 form is no longer valid, you need one of these:

European Health Insurance Card
https://www.ehic.org.uk

Apply online, I recevied mine in a couple of days.

Ade.

I've never bothered, i just take the new E111 credit card thing. My thinking is that most foreign hospitals are better than the ones over here so why would i want to be flown home!

We use Worldwide Insurance (http://www.worldwideinsure.com/) having checked that motorcycling is covered and having received the following response:

"Jean@Customer Services" wrote:

"I am pleased to confirm that our policies do all provide medical and emgerency cover for motorcycling holidays. This means that you would be covered for the cost of treatment or repatriation following injury whilst motorcycling. However, there is an exclusion under Personal Accident which means that you or your estate would not receive the lump sum compensation payout in the event of your permanent disablement or death resulting from a motorcycling accident. In addition, the Personal Liability cover within travel insurance does not apply whilst riding the motorcycle. I hope this is of help to you. "

It's the medical/emergency cover which is important to us, the personal liability would be covered by the bike insurance and the death or disablement cover isn't very high anyway.

The exchange of emails was some time ago though, probably best to check they've not changed their policy terms.

Your right most poilicies exclude biking.

You need to check the small print and/or get confirmation in writing.

I already had a few policies in place but all excluded biking on machines over 125cc.

I used Eurotunnels travel insurance recently and they said it covered travel by motorcycle over 125cc.

Its pretty rare for me to go abroad on me bike so one off trip insurance suits me fine.

If you are a regular ICBM (intercontinental ballistic motorcyclist) might be worth getting an annual policy.

I've got the new card E111 thing but I wouldn't be sure that it would cover me for all eventualities,

Ray.

Ray.

ICBM, nice one Ray.

I have an Amercian Express annual policy that covers both me and the family so suits me for bike and family holidays. From memory it costs about £110 a year, not the cheapest but i'm abroad anything upto 6 times a year, so from that point of view it ain't that expensive.

It also includes Morocco as part of Europe (Americans never were much good at geography ) so is covers me for wandering around in edge of the Sahara (not sure how quick anyone would turn up out there though).

Policy covers motorcycling but defo excludes races and rallys.
