Daytime MOT
I know that this has been asked before, but what are the requirements for a daytime MOT? If you leave the original bars on with light and indicator switches, is it still ok to remove the lights and indicators themselves? What's the situation with a rear, stoplight and reflector?
Yes you can have a daytime MOT, that is what I get for my Cucciolo. From memory I can leave the original lights on, but they must not be wired up. I must have a British Standard reflector on the back mudguard.
Obviously this restricts me to good daylight only for insurance purposes. The main differance being the fact that it is 48cc and made in 1953!
Will a testing station provide you with a certificatre stating 'for daylight use only' on it due to either non-working/conforming lights or non-existent lights (ie, track fairings)....YES. ( I have one for my enduro bike, and know of many other with them for their road going bikes)
Does this mean that you are 100% legal and above the law should you get stopped...NO.
Example: Upto a couple of years ago, number plates where not covered in the MOT test. You could get a certifcate without one even fitted if the tester was so inclined. Yet this does not mean your bike is then legal to ride home. Same with the lights...if you have them removed or tapped up, then yes you can get a certificate easily, but if you are stopped by the police, if the officer knows his stuff...you could find yourself with a fine/points etc.
And herein lies the choice, because how many traffic specific police, let alone the 'average town bobby' know this law so specifically in this area? Many on this board alone ride with TD fairings on the road, and have done for years with no issues.
At the end of the day its not legal, and if you chose to go down that route then you may have to face the consequences...but like loud cans, small plates, tinted visors etc, I see it as a choice the individual has to make.
the place I get it done. requires a brake light and reflector your switches must not be able to be used. make of that what you will. I broke them off and taped them up. then got a spare switch gear of flea bay to replace it when I end up in court
chris, the new computer MOT is making these type of mots a problem for some VOSA stations! In short (construction and use ) 1986 i think it is! If Fitted as standard it must work!! Risky nowadays in the eyes of Andy B LOL see ya soon mate...mav
