I think you may be about to astound yourself fella.

The only problem is that i need a long road to allow it to open up past 8,000rpm

Are the brakes **** then or poor throttle response

Been thinking of taking a test ride on one of the latest crop of litre bikes from Japan just to compare with the 998r. If the throttle response and low end Torque match the 998 I'll be surprised. The only other thing to put me off is the big wide fule tank, I don't like the splayed leg riding position, that most seem to have from sitting on em all at the NEC.

LOL .... well yeah the brakes are actually... but i've got a new set of pads arriving...

Ray, feel free to ride mine anytime fella... it's not 'current crop' ....

Low end torque... hmmmm depends on how you think of it... the Ducati have a GRUNT that the R1 doesn't 'seem' to have... but i'd be amazed if thery were on a dyno and showed different figures...

not looking at the figs desmojen..even the latest R1 is only claimng 78.5lb..and I guess this is at the crank what at the rear wheel??

My 98sps is producing 77 rw...am sure 98R/99R is more....and it doesnt make max power til 10750, not that I ever go THAT far east on the rev counter!!

havent ridden an R1 for years...we'll have to have a swap weeksy

Talking

I'm basing my reply on claimed figures from manufacturers. I don't know if you're bike is standard or not either. According to Ducatis own claims the 996R gives out 75 torques, this, in fact, is virtually identical to weeksys R1 which claims 77.
The gixxers on the other hand claim between 81 and 87.
I've ridden with a fellow on a 999 (albeit while I was running mine in) and can confirm that in the lower revs (4-6k) the 999 had more stomp. As soon as you get above that it cannot hold a candle unless you have a lot of money to throw at it.
You will probably find that the R1 is reasonably closely matched but that's because R1's are for girls!

Actually, Dukes don't have more torque at all. The torquiest supersports bike built thus far was the GSXR1000K1. The difference is the the Duke makes more torque lower in the rev range. It does, however, run out of puff big time in the higher rev ranges in comparison to a Jap thou.

You and Weeksy might have a lot of fun out talking each other though! ;-)

Jen.
