Hurts me to say it, but I reckon, objectively, the 998r is a marginally better bike (999cc engine, Carbon seat unit). 996r might have the edge, long-term, if bought as an investment (but what a waste that would be).

Have you seen TP's 998r up for sale (unless he's changed his mind again)? Two (ahem) careful owners and the fullest of full service historys

Nah - the 996R is the better bike, its got 1bhp less, but greater exclusivity, it was the homologated bike for the world championship winning Ducati (TB2001), the engines were the first of the testastrettas and as such were hand-built - the 998r in comparison was a mass-produced wannabe that never won a thing !!!

In truth each bike would make a great choice, the 998R used to attract a greater premium as it was a later model, but now as they are both "old" - the delta is much less, if any.

Whichever you choose, enjoy
Tim

Why a 998R!!! Of course!!!

Les, I got your PM mate and I'll be in touch tomorrow. I've just gotten home after two very intense, long and very hot days at Silverstone so I am completely cream crackered!

Like Tim says, the 996R everytime. Take no notice of TP, he never had his longer enough to make a comparison.
