I'm sure it can be welded and this is an option.

Having had a look at my 996R subframe, it already has an additional brace welded on the top of the subframe so i suspect that it may not be the first time the subframes have cracked.

Shaun,
The subframe on the SPS is different to your R and to that fitted on the 748R etc.
The SPS uses the P8 ECU and is the only one to do so. Haz' will need to find a SPS one.
I'd get it welded and maybe add a couple of plates in at the same time
