| On my 916 the side stand is help on by a long bolt and a nut. A metal plate connected to the return spring pushes against the said nut and causes the side stand to auto lift. The nut acts as a lock nut, as you can not do the bolt up tight, or else the side stand will not move. So what I did was remove the nut, bolt and then the side stand. Cut down the bolt so that it does not stick out proud of the inner face of the side stand. This means that the plate on the spring does not touch on anything any more, and therefore does not auto lift. I then put thread lock on the bolt to take the place of the lock nut.
