Help from Fen dwellers

I am looking for some route suggestions. I am meeting with a mate from Essex next week sometime. Want to meet up somewhere equidistant, so were thinking of a blast round the Fens.

Any good route suggestions, perhaps starting out from Chatteris. Looking for decent bacon butties and nice bends.

I asked this a while back and got no answers. Went there to meet some mates from Essex and did not find many satisfactory routes.

Someone must have some good route ideas for the area. I am meeting there again as it is half way for all of us. Suggestions please. Even a decent cafe / pub in the area would be a start.

Herb, the Fens themselves don't have many great roads-mostly flat and straight-with the odd 90 degree corner thrown in to keep you on your toes. However, if you go slightly west from say Huntingdon/Peterborough area there are tons of brilliant roads-the B660 for a start which MCN and Bike mag are always going on about. But as above give Keefy a PM since he knows all the roads/cafes/pubs that are to be found.

Whoops sorry only just spotted this thread.
Ooo Chatteris eh?Some good roads out that way,...well they would be if they were'nt so darned bumpy! And I'm talking fire you out of the seat bumpy!
Take the Chatteris-Somersham road,...please,...great twisty road, but wow,is it bumpy.Give us a clue where you want to start/finish or do a loop,I can mebbe help.
A few good Cafes around,
Grafham Water 'home' of the BHCN
Comfort Cafe,just south of Cambridge
Silver Ball south of Royston
The Fox Inn on the B660/A14 junction will do ya breakfast.
And,hey, isnt there one at Chatteris on the roundabout junction with the A141/142 Ely road?
There is also the Grove Cafe on the 141 nr,Huntingdon.(Dont think its open weekends tho!??)

Thanks. That has given me some ideas.

We are looking to do a circular ride. I think we will now meet at Grafham and go out from there and try some new roads, I think we are more likely to find what we are looking for there. Want to be out for about 4 hours rding with a couple of breaks so we can cover a reasonable area to find good roads.

As none of us are from the area it will all be new.

I think we found the Chatteris - Somersham road last time we met up. A good road, but you are right, bumpy in places.

Ok,from Chatteris head towards Huntingdon on the A141.Turn off at Warboys and carry on up to Ramsey on the B1040.Carry on the 1040 up to Ramsey St.Mary.About 100yds into the village, turn left onto the B660.The first part is very bumpy but fun,the best bits are after you cross the A1.Continue on the 660 untill you reach Kimbolton.Turn left and continue untill you reach Gt.Staughton.Take the very first left in the village just past the pub.At the top of the hill thru the trees, turn left into the Grafham Visitors centre,...you will find the cafe here.
Alternatively take the 141 towards Huntingdon and turn right at the roundabout near RAF Wyton (B1090).Its a great little squirt thru Abbots Ripton and Woodwalton. You can pick up the local link road that runs alongside the A1 towards Sawtry.Pick up the B660 north of Conington.
Hows that for starters?
Why not come along to Grafham when the BHCN are about? We dont bite,...well I cant speak for Glyn!

Beware, the B660 aint half the road it used to be, loads of dumb community 'speed projects' have turned it into a stop go, stop go road!!

We don't ride that end Smurf-at least not since they decided to 'improve' it. I was chatting to some traffic friends of mine a while back and even they reckon it has been ruined now. The only reason they could come up with for all the 40 limits is that a local councillor must have bought a house on the road and decided it was too busy. We ride the other end from Kimbolton north. If you are based in Bedford you should meet up with the BHCN at Grafham and come for a ride-as Keefy said earlier we don't bite-well not generally anyway.........
