Bit late but today’s random fact of the day is;
Despite over 300,000 people working in the City of London (also known as the “square mile”), only about 7,000 people actually live within the city walls. This is down 95% from the peak in the 1700’s. The boundary extends to the halfway point across the Thames and includes all of Blackfriars Bridge and London Bridge but curiously only half of Southwark Bridge. Within the square mile, over $735bn of foreign currency changes hands every day (I’ve no idea why this figure is given in dollars, not pounds) and over £150bn of insurance premium income is received every year.
