Three Valleys (Courchevel, Val Thorens & Meribel) in France. H U G E ski area. Over 600km of slopes. Go. You won't be disappointed. Check out www.skiacommodation.co.uk for places to stay in the Troi Vallees. I stayed in La Tania a tiny resort between Courchevel and Meribel.

Val Thorens. Did a Christmas to New Years trip there some years ago. It's very high up so gets snow early and also has a glacier so there's always something to be had.

...Or. If you're feeling rich!! You could try Saas Fee in Switzerland. It's high altitude, has a glacier and is north facing. ie loads of snow and very cold. When I went it was -26c at the top of the mountain. Without wind chill.

Glyn ........If you have not been try Banff,Canada cannot praise it enough i did 3 Vallies for years but once i went to Canada never gone back to Europe unless long weekend in Chamonix. they cater for kids really well the pepole great ,food great and real powder like you have never seen and if you do backcountry you get too meet real Rednecks...and if you put it up against Meribel,Courcheval etc not that much difference in spondullees.............

Bones I lived in Canada for a few years Whilst serving in the Royal Flying Club, Loved the place but to be honest we are just looking for a quick break over crimbo,
and if i go back to canada, the chances of my shop being open in the new year are very slim, I will not want to come home.
Cheers tho mate

have spent christmas in 3 vals as well as vallandry which is on the edge of les arcs so a bit quieter but connected to ski area.

Val'd is good as well although a bit more expensive at christmas.

it's worth driving out if you can face it, you get to take everything with you and have a great festive season
