Couple of general questions regarding suspension on a 600ss bike if you don't mind and I'm sure the great minds on here have the answers.....

1. If I was to go down the Ohlins rear suspension route, which one do I need? Part numbers useful, but even more useful would be what bikes they can come off. So, you see on eBay something like "Ohlins shock off Ducati 998." Will it fit? What exactly am I looking for? And lastly, does anyone have one for sale on here?

2. Fork internals. Recommendations for parts and locations in the South East to have them fitted/setup?

I don't want all the answers or all the secrets, but if you can point me in the right direction that would be appreciated!

Rear shock off a later model as they are slightly longer, the standard units are a good unit. For the front use again standard or slightly stiffer linear springs as per your preference. Most of the front running 583's used similar set ups.

Ian leah bought a 450 quid ohlins shock for his 620ss and after fettling returned it to the base setting he had on his original shock and he openly admits it made no difference what so ever..!

I rode my 583 for 2 years on std 900ss shock and never had an issue and doubt very much indeed an ohlins would of improved my results.

All i have had done to the forks is fresh oil..nowt else.......

would only suggest a 900ss shock as it is slightly longer with a stiffer spring...other than that Phil save your money....

Its been my experience that "Off the shelf" shocks no matter how good the brand still need the internals to be set up properly by experts as they seem to have budget parts inside. I would suggest that the best approach is to buy from the experts in the first place. K-Tech, Maxton etc. Never gonna be cheap but you'll only need to do it once!

The ohlins unit for the SS is DU235. It's quite a tight fit under the tank so the resevoir is mounted at exactly the right angle, so I'd be careful buying others and hoping they fit. I know someone here bought a MH1000ie ohlins for DD and it didn't fit.

As MLC says, there's no point whatsoever buying a new shock if it isn't set up correctly for you and the bike.
