PhillC, yep, that's as I remember it as we triple checked before modifying the sub frame on my bike. As far as I can see, unless it specifically says 'you cannot remove parts of the subframe', like the statement for the the main frame, then that's a goer too

"Additional seat brackets may be added and original brackets may be removed. Bolt-on accessories to the rear sub-frame may be removed."

As far as i can see that clears the issue of removing the pillion bracket mounts.
