Ducati`s boss Claudio Dommenicali has had a poster of the original 916 on his office wall throughout the development of the 1098. He is on the record as saying he wanted the 1098 to be a development of the 916 icon in the same way that porsche keeps reinventing the 911. Tellingly, Ducati design boss Pierre Terblanche- The man behind the Multistrada, the sport classic range and the 999- claims to have had no input at all.
