Certainly you're right to factor in a major service, probably at £500+.

If it were me, I think I'd prefer to buy it "cheap", and arrange the big service with a trusted Ducati specialist, rather than let a "non-Ducati" bike shop monkey around with it.

No belt change since 2003 is *not* 'full service history'. Either every 20k kms or every two years.

Fred exactly what I told them. If they get the service done it will be with Two Four Italia in Ringwood I believe.

Just ridden it and enjoyed it. The riding position is obviously well different to the Monster (which I struggled to ride afterwards!).

The final deal on the table is my 2 bikes plus £400 for the 2000 748 with 10000 miles. They would MOT it, give it a 3 month warranty and get a full service done at a Ducati dealer.

Only niggles were:

1. tyres will need changing soon (they would not stretch that far)
2. Front indicators on upside down (accident) but HPI was clear...

sounds like false economy to me, buy my A1 condition, every peice of history documented beuty and sell your bikes private, job done, everybody happy

Hi Paul,

You can't beat the looks of the 748 but I've never ridden one so I can't comment on peformance. If you're looking for a bike that gives you an aesthetic thrill and will turn heads, and keep you drooling over it in the garage, it will do far more for you than the Monster. Monster's do nothing for me appearance wise but I love riding mine because I love the engine and it's very easy to handle. What type of riding do you do (other than up to Lincoln to buy bikes, of course)?

Just don't think you should buy a yellow one unless you can afford to get it re-sprayed straight away.

Taht is a colourist remark , we all know that only the best 748`s are yellow , slapped wrist young lady.

No its definitely red!

My riding is hour rides 60-70 miles mainly 60mph roads I guess.

I certainly enjoyed riding it even though is felt very strange as if I was strapped to a missile....
