Chris,

Hope you are as lucky as some I know, they get a nice payoff and walk into another job pretty easy, some even have another job sorted before the cheque hits their account. Some say its the best thing that ever happened to them for all sorts of reasons.
Sure, it can be long term bad news for some but that isn't always the case.

Ray.

Chris, best of luck and its a shame you are not closer to cheshire / northwales.
I get a gut feel that our HR director is about to part company with us. No tears though from around 99% of the company as he was utter slime and savoured the task of getting rid of people with little thought or compassion. He was hired a couple of years back to do this, but has done some serious damage to morale sitting up there nice and high. They were about to lay off a few staff from a dept, on the thursday one girl handed in her notice after 12 years, the day after she was going to be made redundant with a payout. he could have at least tipped her off. anyway being in IT we pick up on things and i get the feeling he wont be here for long. Perhaps you may like to find out more if chester area is not too far for you ?
If not i wish you the best of luck hunting, and hope the payout was handsome

I'm sure you'll be straight back into an overpaid, underworking type job in no time with your skill, Chris.

Good Luck.

Hi Chris - we've never met, but I've been where you are right now (middle management within Mr Murdoch's empire when it happened to me, plus I was going thru divorce at time, and I'd just written off a Honda Blackbird - so it wasn't all bad !) - Five years on, I'm a happier man, self-employed, no stress, better quality of life and no more worrying about somebody doing it to me all over again.

If someone had told me the above the day I was made redundant I would have snorted in derision, so I'm sure you will soon be looking back with a big smile on your face.

All the very best to you and your family,
Ronnie
