I was thinking of keeping it outside of the actual message boards themselves (but maybe with a sticky link within each models tech board area). Just a knowlege base area of the DSC site that could maybe expand over time to cover some of the other areas covered on the RGV Technical pages ( http://www.rgv250.co.uk/technical.htm ).

I know a lot of info is contained within the message boards already, but it's not always easy to find using the search functions. I think some web users may prefer to just browse through a website, rather than search through message boards. There's so much useful info on this site, it seems a bit of a waste to keep it tucked away in the message boards alone.

Is it possible with the current DSC website?

That's why I was suggesting some thought is given to a basic structure in which to save the information instead of the generalised area we have now.

Personally I think it would be better to plan a way of storing the information within a (possibly) new structure in the current message board software. This has a number of benefits:
1) all the data gets backed up together on a regular basis
2) everyone can easily contribute to it as they already know how to post pictures and text
3) whoever is co-ordinating this new area will have the technical support and assistance (where necessary) from the webteam
4) any searches issued from the top of the Technical forum structure will pull back details wherever saved
5) if you only want to search within a specific range/model you can do so easily

Yes I agree, but it may be possible to include related data in one thread that then ends up being similar to a large webpage?

Yes, but we want to avoid having the same information duplicated in a second location as this means any changes to one area requires someone to then update the second area as well to keep everything up to date.

The above is just my personal opinion, I think that we could make better use of what we currently have by applying a little thought and planning rather than jumping immediately into a new suite of software.

I'm happy to let you + the webteam decide where best to locate it within the current site. Although I'm a geek, website's really ain't my thang!! It would be good to get some ideas & feedback from some of the web guys in the dsc.

What's the process to get the ball rolling?
