Deffo worth a pursuing, get some piccies of the hole with something that shows the scale of it, maybe take some measurements the depth is crucial.

Some roads round here make sections on the acropolis look like a billiard table, ................."no officer my steering isn't broken but it would have been if I hadn't missed that pothole"

If you are going to take a photo. Put a newspaper next to the hole, so you can veryfy the date the photo was taken.
