I'm tempted to be very sneaky and buy a Tom Tom rider

Just found out it can be used in car with a mounting kit and Halfords are giving that away free with the unit - must look up some reviews.

Cheers guys - Frank

Hi,
Tom Tom was given the best review on the Gadget show on CH5 and i must agree mine has been brill....i have loaded the software on my PDA (IPAQ) and mounted it on a cradle in the car,This option personnaly i think is great as you have not just spent hundreds on a sole user item but have got the PDA for the rest of the time,

Cheers

No mate!.... it comes out of the speaker...you can either buy a cradle that has a GPS and speaker all in one or buy a PDA that has a built in GPS and just buy a simple cradle (£5)that sticks (Sucker) on the window and both are powered by a cable to the cigarette lighter socket. works v well

Damn, tom tom rider does not have a speaker and relies on Bluetooth for output - there is NO provision for plugging any audio devices into it.

Tom tom customer support were very helpful, which is encouraging.

However, there are quite a few bluetooth speaker systems about now
- this one from the dreaded Fleabay looks good:

But I need to find out what version of Bluetooth the rider is using !

Why is nothing simple I ever try to do these days -

Thanks for the replies - Frank

Thats worth knowing thanks Frank. I've got a TTRider and the helmet speaker is very good. I would like to use it in the car but the earphone that comes with it just wont stay put so I'm considering getting a speaker. Didn't realise there were different versions of bluetooth, also finding it difficult finding anyone with a car mount in stock too!

Me too...Got a Garmin Street Pilot for Mrs Jools about 6 years ago when they were 'new' technology and cost a feckin fortune. She got lost with it as well.

According to the kids who were in their late teens at the time she got lost because she argued with it all the time and when it said "In 200 yards, turn left" she would answer it back and say "I'm not going down there you stupid thing...". Once she'd ignored what it was telling her to do, the Sat Nav would chirp up and say "Off route...recalculating" at which point she'd shout at it and switch it off.

Bargain at the price then

So she shouts at the technology as well as you then Jools-at least she's being even handed.
