suspension and leak

bike is a 1000ds ss
all the suspension is adjustable,
(ie compression and rebound, preload and height...)
where do I start tweaking or is it a case that if I need to ask I shouldn't be messing with it?

Also
I have a small oil leak from the cover on the side of the front cylinder head. (opposite from where the cam is driven)
There are 3 bolts.
Is there any point in taking this off to try and seal it???

Richard,

send me u2u with your address and i will send copies of some suspension articles which may be usefull. They are not of the level of Shazaams stuff, but helped a dunderhead like me understand the boingy bits better.

As for the leek, blame the Welsh
