The Ducati tool, and that type of tool in general are notoriously crap (sorry)
The screwdriver and hammer can be pretty effective if a little crude

I use a Sykes tool. A steel strap wrench type affair that is tightened up around the filter, bought from Halfords years ago. It has never let me down.
A conventional strap wrench is also effective.
