Ed, mum here!
Wee JB & Rushjob are right, you know (oldies usually are ). Even our Bex, had a non sportsbike for 2 years, before the NC21 to gain the cheap insurance, as well as experience.
When I came back to it, I got a non faired bike (as I still have), to buld up the no claims etc. You would be suprised at what you might be able to get - its a bike isnt it?
Kwak 600's way too much for ins arent they?
What about the older semi faired GPZ'/X'ss - slightly taller, and poss on classic ins? Still capable of 140mph. (in 1984 the GPZ600r had a lean angle of 51%, before anything touched - not as good as the 999, but still a long way down) prob around the £1000 mark to buy. Full faired, they are more upright position, like todays sports tourers.
Also the older GP550's were quick faired bike - again cheaper to insure.
1980's CBR600s - FZR 400 (was a taller bike) or FZR600
