Number Plate Light, Legal Requirement?

Recently bought a nice billet aluminium number plate hanger for my 748 but there is no provision for a number plate light. Is it a legal requirement to have one? If so are there any specifications it has to meet?

Thanks.

Yes it must be illuminated when riding it during the hours of darkness but perverseley there are no specifications/requirements as to wattage etc. - merely that the plate itself ( not the registration mark thereon ) must be easily distinguishable
I have an Evoluzione number plate relocator with a very small bulb to light the plate ( I think only 2 or 3 watts and only about 3mm across ) and this works very nicely thank you!
Hope this helps
Andy
