As much as i hate coppers........ They are trained to drive at these speeds, where as the majority of us are not. Just a thought.

I dont hate coppers, think most try to do their job but are hindered by others but...just because he may be trained, and unless he has been chasing criminals recently it is unlikely that he will have driven at speed legally, it does not allow him to break the law. Saying that, what a great idea that would be - get trained, become experienced and then drive at a higher speed limit...I think others reccomended that recently on here??

As for sack him - if I had been caught at that speed and escaped a ban I would retain by job, but a ban would mean losing my job. But I do not preach road safety - he does. And for this he must be removed. Put him in drug enforcement - then he can try other things too

Er... i doubt very much that he has received driver training, let alone Advanced, and worked using those skills on a daily basis.... might be wrong.

I do aggree to an extent, that it will be very difficult to preach one thing having been caught doing the contrary.

As regards consistancy, it would appear from the number of people on here that have expressed their penalties for the like offence, that he got the same.

I also noted that he has spoken about, traffic conditions, and visibility etc etc, OR, all the little excuses we tend to come up with when caught, or complaining about limits not being relevent..... hmm.

Just when there was a reasonable arguement going on... watch some idiot come along with his overt out of touch insults, that are not contributory to the conversation whatsoever.

In fact the comments are out and out discrimination, reducing what is quite a factual topic, to a weak opportunity to abuse the Police as a whole.

I received a fine and a 2 week ban for 107 mph on a motorway with only 4 vehicles on it - me, unmarked BMW and 2 lorries behind us...

It's a fair cop - I broke the law and took my punishment - but these judgements are left to local magistrates to make, and they mostly have less idea of what's safe and who's trained than most of us. Also, guidelines on levels of sentance are given at a local level, so Hertfordshire bans for anything over 100 regardless of circumstances while Beds or Bucks may not.

The guidlelines on minimum punishments for certain speeds should be nationwide and published to everyone. If a sliding scale of points, then bans and associated fines was published then you would know what you were going to get when you chose to do the speed...then there's no argument over light or harse treatment.

Just my humble opinion having been through the process....soapbox now stowed away....

At the end of the day, he is a reprosentative of the Queens law and enforcment department and he broke the very law he was directly responsible for upholding. In other words he was failing in his job. I know what would happen to me if i seriously failed to do my job,,,OUT !!!

I don't want to be too emotive about this but surely the man should no longer remain in charge of the trafffic division as he must now have lost the respect of both the public and his own officers. His advice on road saftey would now seem to be at the best hypocritical.I would not like to see him sacked from the police force but I personally feel that a sideways move would be appropiate.
I am reminded of the phrase "Justice not only needs to be done it also needs to be seen to be done"

Typical! One man's mistake or black mark and every police officer gets tarred with the same brush, just like all motorcyclists get tarred with the same brush cos of the outspoken and idiotic "antics" of "outlaws" (like Vman?) who buzz around annoying others for their own enjoyment! Let's see if this particular guy gets it in the neck from any internal enquiry that follows up the court case?
