There is one piece of kit on your bike that is all too often forgotten and is a god-send on these occasions - and I don't wish to preach to the converted, use your HORN.

If I get the feeling that a motorist is not paying attention to what is going on around themselves, and I think they may have an effect on my safety, especially an overtaking manouver, they get a long blast from my horn, not once, but often several times to alert them of my presence.

Leave nothing to chance - Ride defensively, take control of your own destiny and use all of your available resources to gain control of the road, (your space) if need be.
