4 clicks on the compression, assuming that's clicks out, is way to much. Back it out to 10 or 12

isnt the idea that you have very little preload, ie the spring correctly matches the weight of bike and rider?

dont worry i have tested this but I know exactly what you are saying

yes SKidlids i also reckon an 8 spring would solve my problem , I called Ktech today and asked why if i asked for 8 did thye fit a 9 (actually 9.25nm when tested ) they said they dont stock them , but they list them ??????bloody cheeck i spent £500 with them .

so where do i get an 8nm spring for 996 fork from??????????

Not sure,
but I would be seeing if I could use one of the 04745 Series of Ohlins springs for their R&T forks
They have a 0.5mm smaller OD at 37.5 and are 47mm shorter at 240mm so would need a spacer making

But the choice of springs is quite wide

4745-75, 7.5 N/mm (marking -75).
4745-80, 8.0 N/mm (marking -80).
4745-85, 8.5 N/mm (marking -85).
4745-90, 9.0 N/mm (marking -90).
4745-95, 9.5 N/mm (marking -95).
4745-10, 10.0 N/mm (marking -10).
4745-05, 10.5 N/mm (marking -05).
4745-11, 11.0 N/mm (marking -11).

Ohlins spring for the 996 is a 8627-90
OD/Length/Rate
38/287/9.0

The 04745 range are
OD/Length/Rate
37.5/240/x.x
