To be honest I don't think there is a right or wrong way of doing anything on a DD bike. If you are happy and comforatble with whatever you mod then crack on.
I was never a believer in spending a lot of time on the suspension. A decent rear shock does make a difference but IMO it's also fine with stock forks, maybe change the oil weight and play with the height.
My SS basically was unchanged all last year (apart from all the crashes LOL)and has gone pretty well this year with James on board.
