Would like to change the colour of my swinging arm (have a 2002 748R with the silver frame) and fancied a polished/anodised finish.

Don't know anything about this but fancied a polished smokey grey type finish that would look nice without looking over the top or out of place.

Anybody got any opinions/comments/views/photo's/advise on this type of thing?

I also wanted something similar and went for a gold anodised swingarm. The trouble with this is that the swingarm is a cast piece and anodising is not recommended.

Subsequently some of my anodising is actually coming off the swingarm and leaving patches. It still looks great but I have to be more careful when cleaning it.

I know that TecMoto do (did) a polishing service for termis and other bits, perhaps they do swingarms too?

Most 'performance' places such as techmoto/casoli do exchange on polished swingarms.

I know On Yer Bike used to do polished items for about £200, as an exchange item, including fitting and new bearings...which I thought was quite reasonable.

Does anyone know why cast items don't take anodising so well??

I've been trying to come up with a suitably weather-resitant coating for my 900SL engine and anodising was looking promising....

Thanks all. Spoke to Tecmoto and they want £150 to polish the swing arm but have apparently had a fire so workshops out of commission at present. Didin't think to ask a fitting price but it would appear to be a beeeeg job!

Ziggi: Your bike looks lovely and being a bit of a Magpie I cannot help but be attracted to shiny things so love the rear sprocket carrier etc!

Anyone seen any pics of a Duc with a polished swing arm? Another option perhaps?!

Interestingly enough, I have seen Tecmoto do a swingarm in gold paint, similar to the gold marchesini wheels. Smooth out all the casting marks and dimples and then paint. This looks good - it was on a 916 that was crashed and then done up as a red bull rep.

Probably tecmoto would steer you down this route. But like you L3oony, I'm a bling merchant and can't resist a bit of polishing and autosol.
