ok sherlock. I can see where you are coming from it would not be a good idea to give somone incorrect advice. but this is as in the last post very shady ground.
It would not be in the interests of anyone for somone to be prosecuted for having no front light during daytime hours. as you dont have to have them switched on in the first place.
you cant maintain what is not there, and as for the book of law isnt that the same book that said we are not allowed to use snoopers and road angels.

Next time someone asks a question, I'll just agree with them in case I upset someone's apple cart.

Don't worry that they are putting themselves in jeopardy of fines or points or worse, just as long as you're happy.

How is it shady?

It's in black & white if you know where to look!

If you are involved in a crash and don't have lights fitted, you run the risk of getting done.

If you have a crash with no lights fitted, expect your compensation to plummet by approx 50%.

Think out of the box a little and you'll realise that if it should be there and isn't, you fail to maintain.

How about riding with no silencer fitted - it isn't there but you haven't maintained it have you?

i didnt ask for the advice but i enjoy reading it, its all well and good.
but if im considerd to be a menice to society for not running a front light then ill just go hang myself now and save the cops the hard job of hunting me down.
and as for the silencer that would be offensive to others and therfore i and others can understand that.
and its shady because peopole are being allowd to do it and ok it may be the rumourmill but if MOT stations, bike magazines and other policemen say its ok then that is conterdictory, Dont be offended it just another point of view.

Mate of mine did exactly that: rode with trackday bodywork, no lights; had an accident; not his fault (lady pulled on him); he got done for illegal vehicle even though he had a daylight MOT; no insurance payout; big solicitors fees.

So, proceed at your own risk.

I thought it was now mandatory to have headlights on when it's raining ?.(although you'd never believe it seeing the number of total ****s that drive down the motorway with no lights during torrential downpours)

Would mean the bike with no lights would spend more time stopped at the roadside than travelling in this wonderful summer.

Thanx Rushjob. I know you explained all this to me once in the pub, but I was plastered and wanted to try to get home before it got full dark as I've no lights. Also I wanted to see if I could hit 150 down the Oxton by-pass with my new 150Db cans. So ask me if I give a toss!!!!!!!!!

I suppose the point is that although during the hours of daylight (and when not raining), we don't actually need headlights, however our ever benevolent nanny state says that we do, so there!

Seriosly guys, for me this puts the matter to bed for once and for all.
