The 996/998 are like your missus/wife in bed  Ie; The wife will let you ride her within reason,the way you want to  you will know every turn of the way! and you also know that if you push it, she will say "NO" don't go therebut the 749R is like your knock off ! you think you can ride her the same way ! but then just when you think your getting the hang of her "SHE BITE'S" and spits you off!
