can anyone advise me as to a colour match for ducati red please......i had a little off recentley and have repaired the bike new clip on was about had to purchase most other bits i made myself but i cant find a match for the red in spray form i only have a couple of small areas to do but try as i might cant find a match any help in my quest would be much appreciated thanks.......

Look in the back of your owners manual (or on ducati.com for the owners manual for your model year if you don't have the actual book). It'll tell you the paint colour and code.

Then go to a proper paint factor and they'll look up the code and make a match for you. Halfrauds do this as well apparently, but I've never tried them.

PPG are the original paint manufacturer that Ducati use, so if you can find a PPG stockist that will give you the closest match. Try and get some guarantees though, I went to a paint factor who didn't give me the greatest confidence when they had to 'phone a friend' for the weights of paints in the Ducati Anniversary Red colour (that's what my bike is)...it turned out they mixed me Ducati Rosso as seen on earlier Paso's and the like. Try and make sure they'll give you a free replacement if they get it wrong. A very, very small colour mismatch shouldn't matter because you can blend it in but a big mismatch, like I have is instantly noticeable

http://www.motorbikepaint.co.uk/ are good. They're not cheap but with the yellow from my SL they got a perfect match, unlike a few other companies I tried.

Last week I called upon the services of a 'Chips Away' rep who visited my house and for the princly sum of £90. he sprayed out two scuff on the fairing and one 2" scratch on the top of the tail peice. You cannot see where the offending scars were now and he left me the remaining paint.
In the past I was informed that the colour match was Ford Rosso Red. Which looks OK but not quite right if done D.I.Y.
Try chips away if you can afford it!

mine is (749R) red 473.101 (ppg) , if thats a help?

I've used RS paint (http://www.motorbikepaint.co.uk) to touch up my red 92 900. To get the correct match with their paint required a white undercoat, bizarrely (it gives the finish more depth) and a laquer. The red was almost translucent, so the repair and undercoat need to be well prepared, but the finish is worth it, especially if you're doing a full piece and not trying to blend in - I got much better results respraying a full mirror than I did spraying a small area on the fairing. It's easy to overspray (as in apply too much) and end up with a dull (and darker) finish.

Maybe a simple red is the best bet. There's a Toyota red that's not far off, but I don' know the number.

I used a Toyota red (DupliColor spray: Toyota Super Red II) for a part on the bike and it's close but you can it's different if you stare at it for a while under proper light. Not bad for $3/can.
