Mood: Lucky? For some, maybe!
Started off with a better condition donor bike than Kev as I'm more mechanically inept than mechanically minded and mine owes me just under 2.5k all in, similar standard to Skids' but no fairing and 50.3bhp, starting from a 1999 583 Monster.
Need to budget for, in no particular order, bike, ACU Licence/membership, New Era membership, maybe another club membership (we ran under KRC for Snetterton), one-piece leathers (I had my 2-piece Spidi's converted for £200), eyetest, spare lid(?), at least one set of Pirelli Diablo's (mine are still going strong with no sign of fade, just good healthy wear on the edges of the tread!), jacking up kit for the rear suspension (oh yes you will!), dogtags (2), lockwiring, number boards/numbers (40p!!) just to get you race ready! Add to that the cost of transport (van hire £100 per meeting or buy one and sell it on when you're finished with it, or hire/buy a trailer if you've a vehicle to tow it with), van fuel, bike fuel (Snetterton cost me £35 in bike fuel alone, Yes I know my bike was running rich but not THAT rich!!), whatever you need to sleep in overnight and make you "comfy/cozy" for the stay at the track, track days to learn the circuits and your bike, plus everything else I seem to have forgotten and you'll see why this "cheap racing" lark is not for the feint hearted!

Total budget for the year is still on target and will be less than £3k in total.(currently £2368) after the sale of the bike at the end of the season (if we dont keep it and start with a new bike for next year).
Maybe i'm looking at it from the wrong angle but i still think its cheap racing (or maybe affordable would be better).
Either way we'll be back for more next year with at least 2 bikes out.

yeah, no doubt there will be some people leaving but for most people if you are looking to improve or start out racing it will still be a great place to do it.

i have no doubt it will be a bigger more competitive field next year so still great for any novices and i forsee a much greater interest in it from potential sponsors/backers.

in the words of michael jackson..........i'll be there.
