My mate was lucky enough to be in a position to buy a nice car for high days and Sundays. Always wanted a Ferrari, so went in to a Ferrari specialists and said that he was looking for a nice car to drive 3 to 4 days per week and commute during the summer about 15 mile each way. Ferrari specialist told him to buy a Porsche 911.

Said it all as far as I was concerned.

I would say the same about the Mas' your looking at. If you want an ultra reliable super car that can be used to drive around town or use on a track day then Porsche 911. Would not change what you already have, just update it.

I have a 1986 Guards Red 911, I can leave it standing over winter and it will start first time and still do over 150mph

have looked at CL55 previously, 911virgin don't flog masers, although i haven't ruled out getting another porker! not looking at the 3.2TT maser, only the newer 4.2 (4200) which would be new enough for it to be well within warranty, yet lost its initial depreciation! daily commute is 6 miles

I`ve driven a Bi Turbo masserati and found the performance stunning. I also found it far better fitted out than several Ferrari`s I`ve had the pleasure to drive and in fact think there a far more practicle car for the road.

I like the way there very understated.

maserati is much cooler than a new ferrairi - but an older ferrari???? i am not so sure - for the same sort of money(£30-40k at a guess??) why not go the whole hog and get a testarossa!!! servicing is worse as it is a flat 12 but hey - in for a penny in for a pound - i would get a testarossa as it has to be one of the tastiest ferraris of that era - the new ones are just a bit too tame. of course i can't afford a skoda at the moment ......(boo hoo), but i know what i like.

The maserati gets my vote. The husband of the lady I bought my CLK off had just bought a spider and it was bluddy lovely.

Understated, classy and that model your looking at just sounds fantastic.

The comparison to a 911 puzzles me. Sure its a fantastic car (ive driven a few), ultra reliable and looks great...but based on that comparison we'd all be riding gixer thous and not tapping away on the ducati sporting club forum !! A gixer thou makes mincemeat oout of a 999, its cheaper, faster, arguably more reliable an still looks great..but just ask yourself why we ride our dukes !

Im thinking of chopping my CLK in for the new Alfa Brera. I know i'll probably lose on the resale value if I bang a few miles on it (as you would with the maserati versus the porsche), and bits will fall off, but when I first saw it on the website..it just made my heart flutter...in exactly the same way that my dukes did/do.

Its all about soul I guess !
