I had the dead arm thing. The physios can tell from where your pain is as to which joint of your back the trapped nerve is.

Mine was No 6, causes the pain down my left thumb! as apposed to No 5 that would be down to your little finger.

I lay there as he gently massaged my neck.......then bang! with a twist of my head, instant local relief.

The nerves still need to mend from the furthest out to in, so it feels as bad for a while...months even!

Had my first lot of treatment yesterday as Andy said"I lay there as he gently massaged my neck.......then bang!" Now have very sore neck and shoulders! The Pins and needles sensation is still there but a lot "duller" than it was.Xrays showed up quite a few problems I knew I had,but didn`t want to know,if you know what I mean Got physio treatment twice a week for six weeks to start with then once a week after that. The upside was I got the best nights sleep I`ve had in ages last night

A sore, but slightly happier Sparkin out

Took a couple of years to get feeling back in my shoulder after crush-fracturing my T8 & T9. At the time, seeing my shoulder blade in the mirror bouncing up and down whilst brushing my teeth made me feel ill.
I'd say 90% of the original normal feeling was back after the two years. Things do get better mate. I wish you a swift recovery.

If im honest, it probably took 3 months, and the last bit right in the joint of my neck and shoulder was the longest!

HI Sparkin
It's my job to sort out stuff like this. As long as you've had the scans to make sure there's nothing seriously out of place (bones), deep tissue massage by someone qualified to treat injuries is the only way forward. Trapped nerves are often compressed by swollen muscles/tendons and friction in the right places(!) can cure any number of these issues. This remedial massage used to be part of the physios training but unfortunately time pressure has caused it to be abandoned and only the rehab exercises are given, which is no use if the injury has not healed. Can't say if I can help as your location is a little obscure today...but there are a few other elite remedial masseurs in the country, we're unusual! Phone me if you want, I have a list of practitioners.

PS I love treating difficult cases!

Sparkin,

What Catherine said. I have a great sports physio near me too. She works dead hard for an hour, I just lay there

Also, drink lots of water. Sounds mad I know, but when you have the deep tissue massage it'll release all sorts into the system, you need to help the body dispose of the toxins.

Rgds, Rob
