I thought Tom Cruise was crap in it - not convincing at all as a hard man killer. He's far better off playing the pretty boy like in Vanilla Sky.

I saw Meet the Fockers the other night. That's shocking. You'll laugh if you liked the previous one (Meet the Parents) but it's not as funny... which tells you how bad it is.

Ocean's Twelve is very good so go and see that.

My DVD recommendations are Punisher and Bourne Supremacy.

Punisher is a must if you liked the comic book or just like action films. It's a far better movie than the original one with Dolph Lungren and John Travolta does another nice performance as the kingpin criminal. A great film on it's own.

Bourne Supremacy is another great film - a very worthy sequel to Bourne Identity. I think you need to see Identity to understand most of Supremacy, but it has some really good action in it.

And TV .... Day 4 of 24 starts on Sunday

Have seen meet the Fockers and as you say it does make you laugh although more in a cringe way at times... still entertaining though!

Assault on Precinct 13 is pretty good although fairly predicatble.

Saw the Grudge a few weeks back and it scared the pants off me!!!

Looking forward to Ocean's 12 though....

Meet the Fockers I thought was entertaining, just the same as the first to be honest.

Assault on Precinct 13, good action thriller, although lacking the great original soundtrack and the Bourne Supremacy was a corker too

The grudge, what can I say, I could feel my right leg for an hour after someone gripped it that tightly.....

DON'T watch that sky captain rubbish, or cellular, or wimbledon, several of the junk films that were on the plane

Recent viewings (last 10 days, been on lots of planes)

Meet the Fockers was OK, watched it kiling time for a flight last week. Not as good as the original though.

Punisher - Based on the Welcome Home Frank series of The Punisher, pretty good but not brutal enough.

Elektra - Jennifer Garner - Enough said. (Alias Season 4 is getting good too)

Sky Captain - Dross

Alfie - Surprisingly good remake

Collateral - Slated by many, but I enjoyed it

Fahrenheit 9/11 - Shocking, simply shocking and strengthens what most of the UK believes anyway

House of Flying Daggers - Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Team America - Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, just didn't find it funny.

Coming Soon to a big screen near me...

Mr & Mrs Smith - Angelina J, no other reason
Alone in the Dark - Christian Slater, CGI stuff....
Sahara - Trailer looked fun
Sin City - because it's Sin City. Cinematography looks stunning on this one

Stuff I'll avoid

Wedding Crashers
XXX State of the Nation - Vin Diesel replaced by Ice Cube????
The Pacifier
Are we there yet

I think Fahrenheit 9/11 is on this week. I am quite looking forward to seeing it.

I know Michale Moore does like to be a little one sided with his views but as long as you accept this I think that his films are quite good for the shock factor and the 'OMG! Only in America factor'.

The only problem with Michael Moore is that, just like all good "shock" reporters, he twists everything for his own ends and carefully edits footage to ensure you only see the parts he wants you to see.

If you want the other side of the argument, try reading these:

...you'll probably be just as shocked again!

It is true, but as long as you watch his films with that in mind they do get you thinking and as you have shown if you look in the right places you can find out a little more balanced viewpoints.

The Oscar contenders:

Ray has a good performance by Foxx, and the music sequences are great, but the film is a pretty average biopic really. Nowhere near as good as Bird (Eastwood's film about Charlie Parker, starring Forrest Whitaker).

Million Dollar Baby is pretty good, but not the masterpiece some critics are saying. A twist to the story two-thirds through lifts it from being just another boxing flick.

The Aviator is far from being Scorsese's best work, but a big step up from the turgid Gangs of New York. Leo de Caprio is very good indeed (and I'm not usually a fan). Great spot by Cate Blanchett, playing Katherine Hepburn.
