Got a friend who wants to remove the speedo for track days/racing off his 916... he asked me, but I've never done it, had pretty much everything else off the front end but never took the clocks off, so couldn't advise him.

Any ideas...

front fairing off.
then there are two nuts at the back of the Speedo, undo.
whip out the Speedo cable and that's that

Are they accessible without taking the headlight off etc?

just a bit tight to get at the Speedo cable but it is possible.
having said that it depend if you or they want to leave the cable in situe ?

this site does my head in sometimes.
someone asks how to take a Speedo off.
so you tell them
then someone else come along to tell them its not correct. then tells then to do what you said in the first place ?.
TWO bolts hold on the Speedo and you don't have to remove the head light.
now if you want to remove the clocks that's a different matter

Just gave instructions for taking the whole instrument cluster out as this may have been of some help.

Won't bother next time if this is the kind of response I'll get.

yes very helpful that I would want to know how to take off my rev counter and temp gauge if I was going racing.
and if you left your post up we could see that you did say I was wrong.
never mind well all get over it.
