Fuel delivery

On my carbed 600ss, having changed the fuel filter, the fuel now only dribbles out even when the pump is turning over

I am thinking i may have an air lock or that maybe the wheel style fuel tap is blocked

What should I check and in what order and how do i drain the tank which is half full off fuel seems as the fuel tap only releases a 'dribble' of fuel?

There's a drain screw underneath the tank in one corner, so you can drain it from there. Mine was full of rust and took ages to get it all out, scooping handfulls out of the tank! Sounds like it's just blocked at the tap or something.

re the fuel filter - which way should the arrow on it point and which way does the fuel flow?

does the pump draw fuel first, push the fuel out and upwards through the metal tube into the filter then does it end up at the fuel tap?

any help would be appreciated as currently i have a bike that wont run......

having removed the tap there seems to be a blockage in the tank itself

can anyone shed light on the route of flow please?

The pump pumps out through the filter, so the arrow should be pointing away from the pump to the outlet

thanks nelly

now sorted

took all the fuel side to bits,
including tank off, pump out, tap off and pipes off

seems that when i put the fuel filter on, the hot water id used to ease the very cold and stiff pipes on had actually melted the ends (both!) of the filter hence blocking the whole thing

last thing i thought of

so never use heat to put your fuel fillter pipes on!

I'm just about to do mine as well and can't help but wonder if there is a way to relocate the fuel filter OUTSIDE of the fuel tank - like on the monsters.

I might start a seperate thread on this.

Easy. Replace the in-tank filter with a length of tube. Cut the fuel pipe from the tank before the Y-piece and fit an in-line filter there. Job done.

When I first got my SS it had the filter in the tank and an in-line fliter outside the tank as well !
