748 Doesn't Want to Rev Over 7000RPM at Speed

More problems with my 748

Just as I seem to have sorted the clutch problem, another issue has come up.

Whilst riding on the motorway the other day and again today on a dual carriageway, I noticed that once the bike gets to about 7000RPM it doesn't want to rev any higher - it starts labouring and it really feels like I'm riding into a really strong headwind.

I'm starting to get p***ed off with this bike now as it is just one thing after another.

The bike is a 1998 BP. Any advice gratefully received.

Fuel filter clogged?
Air filter clogged?

yup, mine did simillar with fuel filter... remove... blow it out or preferably replace....

it's a couple of hours job all in...

Mine was doing this when i was in france last year, but just had no power over about 8k so could only do 95mph tops as i remember... Took the bike to a Ducati dealer in Tours, the mechanic there mucked about with it, and it turned out the ECU wasn't working.

Turned out i had to get a new ECU, or "calculateur" as they called it which wasn't cheap...

Good luck though, try the fuel filter thing first!

Be careful if it is the fuel filter, as a clogged filter will put extra strain on the pump which will draw more current, and could fry your regulator/rectifier - so for the sake of a £5 filter you could ruin £100 worth of electronics!

fuel and air filters ordered a day or 2 ago, so should be with me tomorrow.

i'm aware of the rectifier issue and so i'm keeping the engibe load as low as possible until the new filters are fitted.

could be the rubber O rings in the fuel line connectors - Ive had that one before!
