having completed the upgrade to AP calipers & disks, can anyone recommend the best pads to use for general road use and wet and dry usage. Having not used this setup before, I am not to sure on the best flavour to use.
I use bendix and they work well for me on a Brembo setup. Several others I know also use them with good results. For racing I use their carbon matrix pads, for the road I would use their supersport pads.
This is one of those subject, kind of like tyres, where everyone will swear on a different setup.
thanks for you input felix. By the way, the rearset issue for the 851. would probably want to still go ahead mate, but are the hangers going to be a problem.
I have a set of 6 pot PFMs which are pretty much like APs on my track bike.
I use Bendix Carbon Matrix pads which come in the right dimensions for the 6 pots (same size I believe for PFMs or APs).
I would NOT recommend them for the road. They have amazing feel and stopping power once hot but are totally useless when cold. It gets about 2 or 3 braking in a session to have them at operating temperature and they are perfect afterwards.
The Carbon Matrix stuff seems to be the recommended set up for APs and PFMs but it looks like I have warped a set of discs using a new set of pads. I guess you need to bed the pads in when using new ones (and I wasn't doing much of that on track) but also PFM discs are known to warp whereas APs and Brembo to hold better. To be on the safe side, get some organic pads and you should be fine.
Like Philippe I had the PFM set up on my trackbike, I used the Ferodo CP911 pads, good performance for the racing and kind to the discs. they also worked well on the roads.
