Brake pedal not springing back? HELP!!

Having not received any replies to my previous post asking for pointers on fitting rearsets, I decided to give it a go anyway!

Most things were OK, the gear linkage is a bit stiff, but the main problem is that the brake pedal won't spring back into the off position. I think I've put everything back in the same place, what could I have done wrong?

Any help appreciated.

maybe you havent located the fixed end of the return spring correctly , if the brake pedal was easy to re fit hen i can promis you the spring isnt fitted right

you also have to make sure you don't do it up to tight as it will stick.
minimal pressure and thread lock

I have done it up quite tight, but it was pretty difficult to get off too?

Sorry for being a complete dunce...its only the spring that causes that pedal to return to its original position right? I have been fiddling with the travel adjusting screw, but havent changed the length of the cylinder linkage, will these have affected the return of the pedal?

Could it be just the fact that I have done it up too tight?

I made the same initial mistake when I fitted my DP rearsets on the 749. Less torque and a dab of threadlock did the trick - also have to echo the comments that if it was easy relocating the return spring then you've not put it together properly. It took weeks for the skin to cover my knuckles after I first did mine!!!

Ok, so its either too tight and/or the return spring isnt on right.
Let me get this clear about the return spring, the smaller bent arm of the spring rests against the mounting, and the longer straight arm against the pin on the pedal arm, is that right?

How hard should it be putting the return spring back right? Pressure wise I mean?

One more thing, when I took it apart, I'm sure I had two washers lying about, but when re-fitting, I've only used one against the mounting point, where does the other one go?

I should have paid more attention and now I'm worried about having f***ed it up, can't even take the bike out (not that I would, its bloody freezing )

999/749 has two washers fitted between the pedal and the mount bracket unlike the 996 etc which only has one.

That's probably causing the pedal to bind when you tighten the pivot bolt
