Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) has a number of advanced security features that can sometimes work against you. One of the more important aspects is the control of 'cookies'. A cookie is a small piece of information that is held on your computer that the website uses to identify you and can be used to hold certain information about your connection to the internet.

In the case of the DSC message board, a cookie is used to keep a list of the most recent messages you have viewed - so each time you log in you can immediately see which threads are new or have been updated since your last visit. It also (temporarily) holds an indicator to denote whether you are logged on or not. So if you have cookies turned off - the website cannot mark you as being logged on and you therefore have problems using the board.

To check your browser settings, you should open Explorer 6 and on the top menu bar look for the 'Tools' option. Click on this and then choose 'Options'. On the window that appears, click on the 'Privacy' tab at the top of the window. You should see a screen like this:





Click on the 'Advanced' button and make sure the window that you now see looks like :



Change your tick boxes to match those above and then click on the 'OK' button on the Settings window and on the Options window.

Now go to the DSC website and click on the 'Message Board' button. To test if the cookie settings you have just made are correct, click on the link at the bottom called 'Click here for a cookie test'. You will then be shown a screen that should say 'Cookies are working correctly'.

If you see a message saying 'Cookies are NOT enabled', recheck the settings you made by retracing the steps above, then instead of going striaght to the DSC web site, close your browser first. Then restart the browser, connect to the DSC website, and run the cookie test.

If you still see the message saying 'Cookies are NOT enabled', please email the webteam giving your board name and the time of day when you ran these tests. We can then look in our audit logs to help identify the problem.
