Snap-on V Mac Tools. Help!!!

I am considering purchasing a Snap-on Tools or a Mac Tools franchise, and I am a bit torn which would be the best investment,in terms of product, corporate image ect, so I have been conducting my own research by going round to dealers and calling into the workshop and talking to techs, however no research would be complete without the input of the DSC, so any advice, opinions, experience, knowledge, or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Stu

I bought some snap on tools for Freak last year and they are great quality as you would expect. They did bugger the order up a bit but sorted it when i contacted them.

Given a choice i would have snap on because i know its good stuff. How much of that is based on image though i dont know.

For a luddite like me I'd say Snap-on, just because in my eyes they seem a more well known brand, doesn't mean they are the best, but I see quite a few Snap-on vans rumbling around.

I've heard of Snap-On, have never heard of Mac. That tells me that Snap-On are much better known to Joe Public, if that helps.

Doesn't really matter to me, as long as DSC members get a substantial discount!

Seriously, though, I would think you'll want to ring every potential customer in your geographical area to get feedback. From memory, I've seen quite a few Snap-on truck but can't remember ever seeing a MAC tool truck in this country.

There's plenty of Mac tools guys out there! I have both types, and although Snap On is more glamorous, Mac are just as good.
There is the point that many mechanics won't even get on a Snap On truck because they know the prices!
A friend of mine runs a Snap On franchise and he had a few tales of them being a bit hard to work for, but at the end of the day, he's still doing it, and he's loaded!

Hi, having had a workshop and needing to buy quality tools I bought snap on, despite having the option to buy Mac and having no real preference.

The reason was simply because the guy had a good reputation, was recommended to me, carried plenty of stock and was b****y helpful, just what is needed.

Interestingly that is why Nelly maintains my bike.

So I do not think the name matters so much as the guy selling them in my experience, hope that helps.

I would pick up the phone book & try all the Snap-on/Mac dealers within 200miles & see what level of service there is for each , no point in doing either unless you can do it better that whats out there already

Ps Snap-on whilst good stuff is overpriced in my opinion & i do use it in my job , Mac not really as comon over here

I find one you get to a good price range most tools are pretty good ,its keeping a hold of it is the problem

Just my two cents

I run a car repair workshop, snap on are the make that all my mechanics buy regular use tools from due to the quality and lifetime guarrantee. thier service varies because the man on the van is your contact good man good service, useless man cr*p service! I will speak to gary our rep when he comes in later this month but I belive you can make a very good living indeed, it depends on your area and the effort you put in.
Mac tools I have only ever seen 1 van in 10 years and my staff dd not buy anything as they did not feel they had the back up they had from our snap on rep.

Either way take care when allowing credit, mechanics move from job to job and tracing them can be difficult. ripping off the tool man is seen as fair game unfortunately.
